Where did rabbits evolve from?

Lagomorpha includes 40 or so species of rabbits, hares, and pikas. Fossil records suggest that these animals evolved in Asia at least 40 million years ago during the Eocene period when they were still relatively small creatures with short ears and no tail who ate leaves off trees rather than running around gathering vegetation as their modern-day counterparts do!
